Bannon is back: Rosenstein is "clearly obstructing justice" and should be fired

What's he up to now? Former senior White House advisor to President Donald Trump, Steven Bannon, has commented to The Hill that he would fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is responsible for the Russia investigation, "in 72 hours" if he did not produce the documents demanded by the GOP-led Congress. This comes after an attempt on Tuesday by right-wingers in the GOP Freedom Caucus, a group of socially and fiscally conservative representatives.

A successful removal of Rosenstein would mean that Trump could instate a personal loyalist as the Deputy Attorney General, which could jeopardise the future of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia collusion with the Trump campaign.

Rosenstein has come under fire over a debacle in which Congressional committees demanded he release thousands of classified documents from the Justice Department to be viewed by members of Congress. Rosenstein testified that the DOJ has "hundreds of officials working to meet the demands of lawmakers", but the challenging administrative demands placed on the DOJ have come across as non-compliance to right-wingers in Congress.

Speaking to reporters, Bannon said that if "he [Rosenstein] does not do it [release the documents] within 72 hours, he's fired. I'd fire him". While Bannon has not been employed by in the administration for nearly a year, famously declaring that "the Trump presidency we fought for, and won, is dead", these comments could indicate how he still has hope that Trump could deliver the right-wing, anti-liberal-establishment reforms that he so dearly hoped for. Clearly the former Breitbart editor and alt-right stalwart is not finished with Trump yet.
