Pipe down Koch; Washington's problems are down to you.

Billionaire industrialist, weapons manufacturer, pioneer lobbyist and all-round conservative bogeyman Charles Koch, one half of the eponymous Koch Brothers, spoke out on Sunday through his network, condemning the "tremendous lack of leadership" in Washington and the "deterioration of the core institutions of society".
In remarks made by the chairman of the network, Brian Hooks, it was made clear that Koch was rather unhappy at the state of affairs in US politics, Trump's administration and the response from the GOP congressional leadership over his now 18-month term.
Such a huge display of hypocrisy cannot go unnoticed, however, since the Koch brothers have been more responsible than anyone for the deterioration in standards that have led to the money-dominated political system in America today; a system that can elect Donald Trump as president and spread chaos and dissent like a disease through the institutions of society.
Since the 1980s the David and Charles Koch have donated large sums of money to at least 34 political and policy organisations, making them a major player in obtaining political funding. They have been active in every election; in 2016 they donated around $880 million to various candidates, giving them a tremendous amount of influence in Congress.
It is no exaggeration to say that a large part of the Republican Party is the Koch Party. In 2011, Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner had to appeal to the Koch brothers for votes to avoid a government shutdown.
The domination of Republican administrations and Congresses since the 1990s, and the sad decline of bipartisanship in the House and Senate is in no small part down to the two Koches. When the government failed get as much done, voters got disillusioned, and when the voters got disillusioned, they elected Donald Trump.
So don't complain about Washington, Mr Koch, because these problems are on you. And if you really want things to get better, take your billions of dollars out of the political system.
