Second Referendum on the table- to strengthen PM against "Brextremists"

A 'people's vote' could be in the pipeline, said former Labour minister Lord Mandelson on Sky's 'All Out Politics'. He said that a pledge to carry out a referendum on the final deal could play out well for Mrs May as it could stave off attacks from within her own party if they know the people could reject whatever she comes up with in Brussels.
The former Secretary of State for International Trade said: "She's got to turn around to them and say, 'Look, what I negotiate has got to pass muster. It's got to gain the support of the British people. So untie my hands, let me negotiate properly, because your going to face a public vote at the end of the day.'"
While Theresa May has ruled out a second referendum categorically (one of the few areas she has been genuinely clear on during her time as premier) it is not unlikely that this could change; remember her notorious U-turns over the pension cuts during the 2017 election campaign, and of course her promise not to call a snap election.
Therefore, it could be entirely feasible that the PM could flip-flop again and call a 'people's vote' on the final Brexit deal that her government makes. However, such a vote would likely need the support of Tory Brexiteers in the Commons, who may be unforthcoming considering the unpopularity of any Brexit deal Dominic Raab, the new Brexit Secretary, could negotiate.
Lord Mandelson went on to say that "people have got to be able to make an informed choice and judgement between the best negotiation Mrs May can produce and the benefits we have existing in our membership of the European Union". Going on what we've seen already, May & Co will need a miracle to pull that off.
